About Us
We live in a world where wealth and waste exist alongside extreme poverty. It does not have to be this way.
Education is a fundamental part of the solution and the Livingstone Tanzania Trust has, in collaboration with the community, designed a variety of programs that are having a positive impact on the local community. Nelson Mandela called extreme poverty a “crime against humanity”. Let us all be crime fighters.

Together we CAN make a difference
The Livingstone Tanzania Trust is a grassroots charity working with local communities in rural Tanzania to fight poverty. Together we develop sustainable solutions that work, which we then share with other communities so that they too can benefit from the work we are doing.
We support children and adults alike, helping them gain the knowledge and skills they need to work their own way out of poverty and live a full life.
Our strategy is to: -
- Improve the educational environment in Kindergartens, Primary and secondary schools by repairing buildings, reducing class size by building new ones and improving teacher resources, skills and knowledge.
- Improve the health of the community through education and diet.
- Develop sustainable sources of income for the schools and communities for them to become self sufficient and ensure project sustainability
School Development

We are transforming schools into safe, clean and stimulating environments for young minds to develop, where each student has a text book to read from and a seat at a desk. We are developing the capacity of the teachers to enable them to transfer their knowledge to the next generation. The future of Tanzania lies in the education of its young people, by giving them a good education they will have the tools to fight their way out of poverty and help the country realise its full potential.
School farm

With the majority of the community being subsistence farmers, helping them improve their annual yields is a key part of our poverty alleviation strategy. Our school farm acts as a demonstration plot for the community to learn from and apply on their farms. We teach the students new farming ideas, irrigation, composting so that they develop key life skills should they also become farmers. The profits from the sale of the farm’s crops and livestock will provide funds to cover the building maintenance costs and so make the school self sustaining and sustainable for the future.
Community Groups
We are currently working with 6 community groups helping them with skills training and micro loans. These groups have realised that together they have a better chance of escaping poverty than if they were to struggle alone. We encourage their determination and have assisted 3 women’s groups to develop and sell fuel efficient stoves (reducing the need for firewood by up to 80%), electric free fridges and rainwater harvesting businesses. We have helped 3 pother groups establish fish ponds and 2 of those groups to establish a pig farming business.
Long term commitment with schools
Part of our work is UK based education. We visit schools and colleges to talk about our work and our communities. But most importantly we talk about poverty and how it can be tackled. We want young people to have a better knowledge of the work than we did at their age and to help prepare them for life in the “outside world” and contribute to it. We want to establish long term relationships with schools and colleges. If the students and their teachers then want to come to Tanzania we can work with ethical volunteering organisations that can make all the arrangements.
