Beliefs & values
We live in a world where wealth and waste exist alongside extreme poverty. It does not have to be this way

The Livingstone Tanzania Trust believe that education is a fundamental part of the solution which is why we have, in collaboration with the community, designed a variety of programmes that are tackling this problem and having a positive impact on the community. We believe that extreme poverty is a crime against humanity and that we all ought to take action to fight this crime.
The Livingstone Tanzania Trust understands that poverty is not a single solution problem but a complex web of interconnecting issues at whose heart is food insecurity, poor health and lack of formal education culminating in a poor life style. We believe that to tackle just one of these issues without tackling the others will never result in poverty being alleviated. We believe that all must be addressed at the same time with a more holistic approach. It is for that reason that we, in partnership with the community, have designed and developed a number of different yet targeted education and lifestyle altering projects that can bring about real, sustainable and positive changes to the lives of the people we are working with. We use the schools where we work as the hub and our projects radiate out into the community with parent income generation schemes, capacity building and health training programmes and of course child education. This community focused participatory approach encourages the groups to be self forming and eventually self supporting.
We believe that the dignity of self determination is paramount importance. Community members taking pride in their successes breeds success in others and so creates an empowering atmosphere of hope for the future.
By working at the schools and creating a hub of learning and demonstration of new ideas for all those who pass through we want to put education for all at the centre of the community.
We work with community groups and individuals without bias towards their gender, age, HIV status, ethnic origins, and religious beliefs.
The Livingstone Tanzania Trust are committed to following Pro-Poor Tourism strategies that aim to increased economic benefits through increased local employment by creating opportunities for local enterprises to participate in the market; that create a feeling of empowerment through participation, communication, consultation, and partnership; that improve the occupational and environmental training and capacity building for the community.
The Livingstone Tanzania Trust will ensure that our business activities meet the needs of the present visitors and host regions while protecting and enhancing opportunities for the future. We will manage resources in such a way that the economic, social and aesthetic needs can be fulfilled while maintaining cultural integrity, essential ecological processes, and biological diversity and life support systems.
The Livingstone Tanzania Trust cultural tourism packages are a niche market activity aimed to stimulate and educate our visitors through exposure to and debate about culture, specially focusing on the impact of the environment on society’s traditions; ceremonies; religious beliefs; life skills; architecture; craft and food whilst bringing revenue to the host community
