The Livingstone Tanzania Trust supports small holder crop farmers in the Manyara Region by providing agricultural workshops designed to enhance, develop and support farmers as they trial new crops and farming techniques; and by offering micro-loans to support them with their development. LTT aims to empower farmers to improve their yields and crop varieties.
LTT’s ‘Out-Farmer’ training project was developed in conjunction with the community of Managhat. The project builds upon existing agricultural knowledge and traditional farming methods and introduces new technology and organic farming techniques.
The project began with ten farmers selected by community leaders and has now grown to twenty five participants.
Training is delivered through informational workshops and participatory, experimental, and reflective learning in a demonstration garden. This training is supplemented with micro-loans to enable participants to apply their new knowledge to improve the agricultural production of their own farms.
LTT have worked with the schools to establish working demonstration market gardens at the schools and at our offices. These gardens demonstrate new farming practices suitable to each environment.
