Capacity of 20 chickens |
Babati Town is growing and the demands for food is increasing. In January and February 2009 we found it increasily hard to buy eggs.
We investigated the costs of building a chicken coop and expanding from 10 chickens to 200 chickens and the maths was pretty conclusive that this is a project that ought to generate significant sums for the school. Please click HERE for the budget.
If this project goes ahead it will play a major part in the sustainability and the self reliance of the school.
The School Farm must start to play a great role in the education of the students.
To help drive this we have devised a small project which will help educate the students year on year as well as give them the opportunity to develop their own income generation sources so that when they progress through school and on to secondary school they can start to have their own income for their books etc. In addition it uses what they are taught in the Maths classes and applies it and so helps them learn faster. Non applied maths can seem boring and irrelevant, but by learning about running a micro-business maths comes to life.
This is an excellent program that if successful can be rolled out to other schools. Click HERE for the briefing page
