Whilst it is still the aim to utilise solar power because it is more Eco-friendly, there will be times when the sun doesn't shine for days and the school needs to operate. So for those times when solar power is not available to us we must have an alternative supply of power.
To this end we have asked Tanesco (The Tanzanian Electrical Company) to connect us to their grid system. We are several hundred feet away from the nearest power pylons and so we have to pay quite a lot of money. (Approx £2000)
Aside from the school we also want to connect the teachers houses to the power and ensure that each unit has it's own meter so that the residents can pay their own bills.
The schools electricity bill is to be paid for from the funds generated from the sale of the cash crops on the school farm.
