Micro-charities might be the solution

kids at new desk in new classrooms

"Education, Education, Education" was the mantra of the UK's Goverment in 1997. A decade later with a new Prime Minsiter in office, edcaution in develooping countires is againn taking centre stage. Mr Brown's vision is to provide edcaution everywhere in the world.

but

  • Will Mr Brown's words help the education of African girls, where an extra year of education can increase their eventual wages by 10-20%?
  • Will Mr Brown's words help the 38,000,000 children who currently do not go to school?
  • Will Mr Brown's words help proivide any of the skilled teachers needed to teach the 1,000,000 extra children that enrolled in Tanzanian Primary schools? Will it help those children who are ready for secondary school?
  • Will Mr Brown's words help provide new classrooms for the additional children at both primary and secondary schools?
  • Will Mr Brown's words tackle the problem of lack of toilets that keep girls away from school for a week a month?
  • Will Mr Brown's words provide food as an incentive to come to scholl and provide vital energy to allow them to concentrate on their classes?

I doubt it.

Micro-Charities like the Livingstone Tanzania Trust as far better placed to deliver what the grass roots need. Working with the community we can stimulate them to solve their own problems. Sending money to Foreign Governments is not going to have the impact at the grassroots level that is expected by the Weestern communities.
