Lake Babati sparkles like an oasis in the wilderness.

Fishing

Fishing by Sam Sutherland

In order to maintain the local fishing industry, fishing is illegal for 6 months of the year. These fishermen are illegally fishing, what what choice do they have, they need to earn a living and there are no retraining centres and this is what they know.

By developing our own fish farm we want to provide fish for the 6 months of the year when they are not available and we want these fishermen to act as our sales force and thus give them a legitimate way of earning a living that also combats the need for the lake to revitalise itself.

The lake is also home to familes of friendly Hippos who in the evening can be seem walking on the shores and can be heard calling each other with their reverse bark.
