Waangwaray Primary School Development Plan 1st April 2008 to 2013

The vision

The aim of our development work at the school is to expand the number of classrooms so that the class sizes are reduced and the quality of the teaching can improve. With population growth rates at 2.6% a year the demand for additional spaces is going to be very real.

Our Target is to have two classrooms for each year group (14 classrooms), as well as a computer lab, a craft centre and teachers offices. This will require many more teachers to work at the school and will mean that we have to build more accommodation for the teachers. Without the houses we are unlikely to be able to recruit and retain teachers, which is vital if we are offering training. There is a growing scarcity of teachers which is also prompting this need.

Of course we are ambitious to get things moving at a good speed to meet the demand and then be one step ahead of it. There is pressure on us from the Town authorities to also work at other schools, especially the Kwaraa Secondary School, which is a long way behind it's growth schedule due to lack of funds. We hope we can diversify our income sufficiently to be able to work at a few sites at the same time, but if this is not reasonably practicable, then our vision for the school may take longer to realise.
