Dates for 2012

Babati is a small but growing frontier town. It is dusty and alive with people going about their everyday business. There is a great feel to the town; it is a mixture of rural and urban communities and so seeing a suited man walk along side a Barbaig nomad is common place. Should you see another white face, you will want to talk to them and know what they are doing and where they come from, such is the rarity.

We have two trips running this year both of which provide a fantastic opportunity to immerse yourself into the community and get to experience the non-tourist side of Tanzania.

In June-August 2012 we will be focusing on the Residential Agricultural Training Centre where we need to:-

  1. Build a variety of houses made out of local materials, in local styles.
  2. Built a toilet and shower block
  3. Build a eating and kitchen area.
  4. Plant trees and live fences
  5. Build a farm with livestock pens, fish ponds and irrigation channels
We will also be looking to work at the Sinai School where we hope to build a library, and to work at the Managha School where we hope to do some work improving the teachers houses.

It is important that you meet Julian Page, our Director before you go so that you can discuss the trip with him and gain a full understanding of the role you will play. He will be with you in the trip, so it is important that you can put up with him!!

To achieve his we need to receive donations of up to £20,000. So please start fundraising now if you want to come on this project. We can only build what we raise funds for and this is where you come in. Between now and then there is plenty of time to ask around and help us build these activities.

In addition to these building projects we will also

  1. Hold English conversation classes with the students
  2. Work on the farm either planting, nurturing or harvesting the crops, as well as looking after the chickens, goats, ducks, goats, cows and fish.
  3. Hold Swahili lessons
  4. Have community walks to see where the students live and to meet their parents
