Add on’s

Tanzania is blessed with many fantastic wonders to see which can be added on to your trip.

The exotic white beaches of Zanzibar, the dhows gently sailing up and down the coast as they have for thousands of years.  Enjoy the laid back “zanzibarbarian” hospitality and sample the fresh seafood. But make sure you stay in small locally owned establishments  because we want you to be responsible!

The aromatic, historic and beautiful old Stone Town is a must for those in need of culture. Livingstone, Stanley, Burton, Speke, they have all passed through this town. Visit the slave market, the gardens and go on a spice tour and try and get lost in the alleys!

Kilwa Kisiwani

Further down the coast is an undiscovered World Heritage site called Kilwa Kisiwani” . Such was the power and influence of this tiny island in centuries past that both European and Arab nations crossed the seas to conquer it. In 1498 the Portuguese registered surprise at the superiority of the islanders’ style of living, which was not compared unfavourably with their own. Now it is just a humble ruin of what once was. A victim of the change of trade routes caused by the Portuguese. But what ruins, totally beautiful and well worth the visit.

Safari

Babati is just over an hour to the main gate to the Tarangire National Park, a huge park that boasts great herds of elephants, cats, birds, and all the usual suspects. Another hour from there is the Lake Manyara National Park that has all of the above but also a large hippo pool. At the foot of the Great Rift Valley this Park has a very different environment. From here you can travel a further hour to the Ngorongoro Crater, a world heritage site of remarkable beauty. This is Tanzania’s diamond of the safari world and also the most expensive, but worth every penny. From here you can travel for a 3 hours into the centre of the great Serengeti plains where at least 2 days are required to explore this phenomenal.  We recommend that you take a safari at the end of the trip and get a lift back to Arusha or even the airport

The amount of time you spend and where you go on safari is your choice, but remember that the more of you going the cheaper it will be.

If you want the Livingstone Tanzania Trust to assist you with a safari booking, you must be ready to pay before 1st Feb 2011 or 1st July 2011.

We recommend you consider Tarangire National Park, Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti.
