Studying the exam results year on year, one of the biggest problems appears to be the teaching and learning of Maths. The Town Director has asked the Livingstone Tanzania Trust to help in address this problem.
The use of apps in the UK and other countries has proved to be hugely successful so we have established a pilot scheme with 3 primary schools to test different apps with the teachers. The teachers will determine their suitability for students and if suitable which year group benefit. By including the teachers in the process and by making them decision makers we are helping to build their trust of technology. Some students, especially those in kindergarten may be going from hand held chalk boards to tablets in one leap.
It is not our intention to provide each child with one tablet in the future but to try and ensure that each child, where the teachers feel it applicable, get to use the tablets for 20 minutes 2-3 times a week.
The teachers were extremely excited by this development and are busy assessing the apps now.
